Learning Cycle: Creating Proficiency Scales

This learning cycle is designed for educators and leaders who are ready to develop proficiency scales or strengthen the scales they already use.

Together, participants will:

• Explore the purpose and value of proficiency scales

• Examine examples and identify characteristics of effective scales

• Consider how scales can increase clarity, transparency, learner agency, and efficacy

• Learn a process for creating proficiency scales

• Develop and refine scales connected to their own learning standards or competencies utilizing educator friendly and learner friendly language.

• Consider how shared scales can create greater alignment among educators and learners

• Begin to use scales to evaluate and design quality lessons and assessments

Best for: Educators or teams who are new to proficiency scales or want to strengthen their ability to create them.

Learning Cycle Structure

Each learning cycle will run for six weeks, combining virtual learning, application, reflection, and collaboration with other educators and leaders.

Start Date: October 7

Length: 6 weeks

Format: Virtual via Zoom

Meeting Dates/Times: To be determined

Registration Deadline: September 28

Fee: $50 per participant

Participants may register individually or as part of a team.

Teams are encouraged to participate together when possible so they can develop shared language, collaborate on scales or implementation strategies, and support one another throughout the cycle.
