Learning Cycle: Leveraging Proficiency Scales

Move beyond creating scales to using them as a tool for learning.

This learning cycle is designed for educators and leaders who already have proficiency scales—or are developing them—and want to explore how to leverage them with learners in the classroom.

Together, participants will:

• Explore strategies for making proficiency scales visible and useful to learners

• Help learners understand where they are going, where they are, and what they can do next

• Use scales to support goal setting, reflection, feedback, and revision

• Consider how learners can use scales to identify strengths, needs, and next steps

• Explore ways scales can increase learner agency and efficacy

• Share, test, and refine strategies based on classroom implementation

Best for: Educators or teams who have proficiency scales and want to move from having scales to using scales as part of the learning process

Learning Cycle Structure

Each learning cycle will run for six weeks, combining virtual learning, application, reflection, and collaboration with other educators and leaders.

Start Date: October 7

Length: 6 weeks

Format: Virtual via Zoom

Meeting Dates/Times: To be determined

Registration Deadline: September 28

Fee: $50 per participant

Participants may register individually or as part of a team.

Teams are encouraged to participate together when possible so they can develop shared language, collaborate on scales or implementation strategies, and support one another throughout the cycle.
